Lake McQueeney WCID 1 – Water Level Update Q&A

The Board of Directors for Lake McQueeney Water Control and Improvement District No. 1 (Lake McQueeney WCID 1, or the District) would like to address some of the feedback that has been submitted by residents through the District website.

Q. There was no notice! The eblast went out after the lake was lowered!

A. The Board was notified by the GBRA on Tuesday afternoon regarding the lake level change on Wednesday. The Board put out a notice to the website the same day. The eblast was unfortunately delayed in going out until after the lake was lowered on Wednesday, due to a timing and technology issue.

The Board has heard resident concerns regarding the short notice and is also affected by the GBRA not giving an adequate amount of notice when changes are going to occur; Board members did not have notice this was coming, either. They are taking resident complaints back to the GBRA and requesting more notice and better communication on the project timeline. As has been the case since the beginning, the Board for Lake McQueeney WCID 1 are the advocates for homeowners within the District, and homeowners themselves, and understand the frustration and impact these kinds of issues may cause.

Q. Okay, the lake has been lowered, how long will this last?

A. Unfortunately, due to the change in spillway geometry, this will be the level of the lake until the end of the project in late September, 2025.

Q. My irrigation pump was submerged to draw water to irrigate my property. What do I do now?

A. The Board of Directors understands this concern, as their homes are also affected. Unfortunately, the lake level will not change again until the project is completed.

It is suggested residents consult an irrigation specialist regarding next steps, whether that is disconnecting the pump, relocating it, or some other solution.

If residents have additional questions regarding the level change, please use the "Contact Us" form to submit your inquiries.
